Universal Works
We aren’t usually ones for misty-eyed nostalgia, but we’ve stocked Universal Works for sixteen years—that’s thirty-two seasons in old money. We could bang on about the timeless cuts, impeccable fabrics, and seasonal consistency, or highlight the global significance this Nottingham-based institution has earned since its 2009 launch. But really, the clothes speak for themselves.
The Universal Works founder David Keyte worked his way up through brands like Paul Smith and Maharishi before going it alone in 2008. “Less interested in fashion and more in the function, fit and cut of garments” David placed these values at the heart of the brand, pioneering a distinctly British look, loosely based on traditional workwear, the focus is on simplicity and craftsmanship rather than seasonal trends.
